Cheese shop is permanently closing after more than a decade in Toronto

A Toronto business that's been a neighbourhood staple for over a decade is closing its doors for good this weekend.

After 12 years of supplying the Junction with an artful array of craft and artisan cheeses, the doors of Junction Fromagerie are about to close for good.

Over its lifetime, the business has been a go-to spot in the Junction for all those specialty cheeses you simply won't find at the grocery store.

Whether stinky or soft (or, my personal favourite, both,) owners Jennifer Rashleigh and Jeff Brown sourced it from Canadian artisinal cheese and charcuterie makers.

Jennifer and Jeff are no strangers to the dairy business in the Junction, also owning and operating specialty chocolate shop, Delight, right next door to the fromagerie since 2008.

According to a statement recently published to Junction Fromagerie's social media accounts (as well as their website and newsletter), though, Jeff and Jennifer are paring down their businesses, opting to close down the cheese shop in favour of focusing on Delight.

"It is with mixed emotions that we share with you the news that we are closing the Junction Fromagerie," they write, noting that, while they've loved bringing unique cheeses to the neighbourhood over the years, it's time for a change.

"Alas rising costs on all fronts have forced us to reconsider our priorities," they write, "so we have decided to return our focus to our first love; chocolate and ice cream."

They announce that, while Junction Fromagerie will be closed permanently after their last day on Satuday, Sept. 28, Delight will remain business as usual, churning out chocolate, ice cream and other delectable sweets for Junction residents.

There's also be a recipe book coming that will feature all of the most popular housemade items offered at Junction Fromagerie, Jeff and Jennifer announce, which will be available through Delight's website on Nov. 1.

Junction Fromagerie is located at 3042 Dundas West.
